Grandmas Vanity
This vanity belongs to my Aunt, and she got it from my Mamaw!! I love furniture with history, and I have a very sentimental family. So there is a lot of older furniture around that can use some care. As I said my Aunt now has this vanity and was redecorating her room in a southwestern/cottage/modern vibe!! Buffalo's and lace with sleek accents.
She likes mixes of wood and paint so her initial thoughts were grey/blue paint with a light/medium stain. So I got to work!!
Knowing the history of this piece and knowing there were literally DECADES of layers of paint on this. I decided to start with a paint stripper. I love using Citristrip! There is no harsh smells and it is easy to use. I brushed on a heavy layer and wrapped the top and legs with surran wrap and let it sit over night.
Using a paint stripper does not necessarily save time but it is going to save your sander! I usually use a metal putty knife and a chisel.
The wood cleaned up so nicely, I was very impressed to see how clean it was under all that paint! I almost did not want to put a stain on this but was so happy with the end result!
I love the way this Vanity came back to life! The color we chose was from Behr called Intercoastal Grey! We were sooooo happy when the blue undertone came out as much as it did in contrast to the dark wood. We got some new cute knobs from Hobby Lobby and couldn't be happier with this Flip!!!
